How to Make a Hair Hoop Out of Yarn
A headband or hair hoop can be used to keep the hair neat and out of your eyes. It’s also a decorative item. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to improve an ordinary plastic or wide metallic headband by wrapping yarn around it. This improves the color and can make it feel softer as well. It will still grip well.
1Prepare yarns in different colors. Cut a string of yarn to the appropriate length, long enough for you to work with without getting tangled up. You can easily weave in new pieces as you work around the headband. You might even want to change colors as you work around it.
2Attach the yarn to one end of the headband. Glue a little bit of glue on one end of the headband or hair hoop.
Weave the yarn onto the headband or hair hoop. Wrap the yarn neatly around the headband from the glued end. Take care to keep the looped around parts neatly lined up with the prior wrap each time. Do not overlap or it will start to look bumpy; equally, avoid leaving gaps or you see the headband color underneath.
- Add more yarn or change yarn color when you reach the end of a length. Remember to glue the end in to prevent it from unraveling (use clear drying glue and don’t blob it).
