A. How to Make Your Hair Grow Faster, According to Hairstylists

I did something four years ago. What was that? Well, I saw V for Vendetta, I realized how beautiful Natalie Portman was with a haircut, I went to the store and dragged my two friends to the bathroom the next day (Hi Sara! Hi Scott!) And bzzzzz. Halfway through, was I really nervous about making a big mistake? Yes. But let me make one thing very clear: I loved my new cut look. The blur of a new haircut is one of the most pleasant sensations in the world, right next to taking a shower, rubbing my scalp briefly and then being worry free. Of course, not everyone liked my cut (to name a few: my mom, my brother, my hairdresser). But as much as I love the cut, letting short hair grow is one of the purest hells man knows.

After letting my hair grow at shoulder height and cutting it on my ears on a hot summer day, two years later, I am back to the starting point: with hair on my collarbone, a desire for change and without patience. Just now I can’t reach my hair goals with a $ 20 trimmer. I want, of course, long mermaid hair up to my waist. I never had my hair longer than my cleavage, but my God, I want it now. If you share the same desires as I do, we are in this matter together. With the help of experts, keep reading to discover the best methods and products to get the hair you want.

1. Maintain health

Wait, wait, don’t click away! Yes, telling someone to be healthy if they want to grow their hair is the thunderous equivalent of telling someone who has a hangover to drink water. But still: effective. Hormonal changes, stress, prescription drugs and illness are all components that affect the rapid and healthy growth of our hair.

Just like every dermatologist tells me that what I eat affects my skin, your hair needs nourishment to not disappoint. Celebrity stylist Juan Carlos Maciques affirms this harsh truth: “Health and hair growth come from within, so diet and personal hygiene are vital.” Hair restorers have a bad reputation, but there are some on the market that Maciques believes can help. Although there is unfortunately no magic pill that will wake me up in Rapunzel’s length, some of the new supplements on the market contain ingredients that have been proven to provide fortifying nutrients your hair craves and that can make it grow a little longer.

Even with supplements, holistic health care is a surefire way to promote hair growth. Meditation, the balance between work and social life and the general battle against stress give your hair a chance to fight. Trichologist Gretchen Friese, a trichologist certified by Bosley Professional Strength (who is a hairdresser, FYI) and stylist, recommends a diet rich in proteins and healthy fats. These foods prevent hair loss and strengthen hair follicles. In addition, your skin will thank you. A win-win situation!

2. Take care of your scalp

Lately, people are beginning to realize that our scalp is so important for hair health. Fortunately, with this disclosure, a variety of products have emerged that are specifically designed to ensure that our scalp is as healthy as possible. “Maintaining a healthy scalp helps because the build-up can impair oxygen and blood flow, which can lead to bacteria and yeast,” explains Maciques. In addition, scrubs, serums and scalp treatments can be as fun as a hair mask.

Sarah Schiek, stylist at Marquee Salon in Oakland, notes that washing your hair too much can damage the scalp’s protective barrier. Alternating wash days and finding shampoos to treat scalp problems can help prevent scaling. You may even have some scalp care ingredients in your medicine cabinet. “Tea tree oil and eucalyptus have antibacterial properties, while apple cider vinegar and coffee combined with avocado oil have cleansing properties,” says Maciques. If you are on a bored and quarantined night, it may take some time to create some hair growth dyes.

There are some conditions that affect the health of your scalp that standard solutions cannot resolve. If problems persist, a dermatologist can prescribe a topical or oral prescription, if necessary.

3. Style accordingly

An important component of promoting hair growth is avoiding harmful practices. Trey Gillen, SACHAJUAN’s Artistic Director, explains that heat and bleach are two of the most damaging things you can do to your hair when you want to look a little longer. If you are lucky enough to survive without hot tools or the occasional hair bleaching, definitely take the time to detox from these harmful practices. You should also avoid spending too much time in the sun or in swimming pools treated with salt water or chlorine, says Friese. If you can’t resist bathing, moisten your hair before bathing so that it doesn’t absorb too many harmful substances.

But if, like me, you look at your hair dryer among your five best friends, then there are solutions for hooligans like us. If you are unable to burn your hair at least a little, there are some precautions you need to take to at least ensure that it is causing the least amount of damage. Gillen recommends using a lower heat setting on your dryer or iron. Always use a heat shield. Schiek recommends the Dyson Supersonic dryer ($ 399) for those of us who don’t want to let go of the hot tools and want to use “healthy” hair dryers.

If you are a fake blonde or bleach your hair regularly, it may be time to isolate yourself and let your hair breathe a little. If you take a look at your roots, you will see how much growth you are actually getting. For all my dyed women, roots are usually a better measure of growth than looking at the ends.

When it comes time to wash your hair, find shampoos and conditioners designed to strengthen, repair damage or prevent hair loss. Personally, I have hair that makes hairdressers say, “Wow, you have a lot of hair!” That’s why I never thought I would need a product that promotes more hair. However, experts agree that the most common reason for you not to see your hair grow is because it breaks before reaching the desired length. Finding quality tools like a Mason Pearson brush ($ 240) can also help prevent breakage. When it comes to products, Gillen recommends paying attention to the ingredients. Cheap products often contain ingredients that coat hair strands and cause damage and breakage. If you can, it may be time to look at investment products.

4. Avoid cuts

The urban legend that frequent cuts make hair grow faster is wrong. Maciques and Gillen agree that it is better to leave your hair alone and let it grow undisturbed for extra length. When the salons are closed and we can’t all leave the house, take advantage of this quarantine time to turn off the scissors and leave your hair alone.

The exception to this rule is damaged ends. Basically, there is no time in my life when I looked down at my locks and didn’t see any split ends. I have naturally brittle and dry hair, which means I need to treat it more carefully to keep it looking healthy. “Split ends are responsible for preventing hair growth because the ends fall apart on their own. Like ashes ”, warns Maciques. Gillen recommends “micro-shavings”: haircuts where only dead ends are cut, leaving behind healthy, well-treated hair that can continue to grow.

For me, that means putting on one of my favorite hair masks (or maybe do it yourself – do it one day!) A few hours before my next shower and let my poor, tired hair soak in goodness. Finding dual-tip treatments, like Rita Hazan’s triple-tip triple threat remedy ($ 30), can also help.

Hairdressers, salon workers and small businesses are really suffering now. While we are all navigating this new environment, please support these companies and their Go-t0 salon if you can. Companies like R + Co work hard to help people and businesses, allowing you to buy your favorite products at your local salon. Designers and salon owners can also register with the collective network R + Co. We all want these companies to prosper and be with us when it is over. Your long hair will have to be shortened at some point!

B. Beauty tips for men: 5 ways to boost your hair growth during quarantine

Guys, do you want to take advantage of the quarantine time? Try these simple tips to increase hair growth.

By practicing self-quarantine, everyone is trying to do their part in fighting the current COVID-19 pandemic. If you are stuck at home, there are many things you can do to make the most of your free time. For a long time, hair care was a woman’s job, but now men pay more attention to their care rituals. We recently shared some tips on how to get a haircut at home during quarantine. Don’t worry if you accidentally cut your hair too short. Here are some tips and tricks to promote your hair growth. Try these tips and get ready with a new hairstyle before the strand ends.

1. Do not use shampoo on hair often

It doesn’t really matter if you have the best shampoo for men. Washing your hair daily can damage it, cause split ends and even cause hair loss. The shampoo removes oil from the scalp and weakens the strength of the hair. Try to limit your shampoo routines to two or three times a week. Use a conditioner without rinsing that can prevent loss of moisture and breakage.

2. Avoid brushing your hair too hard

Brushing your hair is important because it will accelerate growth, but do it carefully. Brushing your hair can completely distribute the natural oil on the scalp to all parts of the head and improve blood circulation. However, too much brushing can damage it. Brushing lifts and breaks hair cuticles.

3. Try head massages

According to a study published in Eplasty in 2016, massaging the scalp can improve hair growth and quality. The study was conducted on nine healthy men who received a 4-minute scalp massage on a regular basis. After 24 weeks, his hair grew thick.

4. Have a balanced diet

Make sure that your diet includes essential nutrients for hair, such as biotin, folic acid and vitamins A, C, D and E. Vitamin E plays an important role in maintaining male hair. A study published in Tropical Life Sciences Research found that participants who consumed 100 mg of mixed tocotrienols (chemicals that belong to the vitamin E family) increased hair growth. So, eat foods like almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds and more to keep your hair healthy.

5. Avoid hot showers

Hot baths can be relaxing, but unfortunately they are not good for your hair. Washing hair with hot water can remove the natural oil from the scalp, making it more prone to damage and weakness. However, this does not mean that you have to take a cold shower, as it will not even help with hair growth. Try warm water to wash your hair and help it grow faster.

6. Give your hair time for me

Sometimes, your hair needs to be left alone without you harming it. Avoid using hair dryers, brushing wet hair or even styling products based on aggressive chemicals. However, if you want, you can use some hair oil regularly to add nutrition to your hair that will improve hair growth and strength.
